Trade Partner Review-5280 Stone

Mallory (Design Concierge) and I had the great pleasure to visit one of our trade partners, 5280 Stone. The wonderful staff allowed us to tour their facility where they fabricate designer countertops created from imported stones of Granite, Marble, Quartz, Travertine, Onyx and other splendid stones. For example, if you choose a granite counter top to be installed in your kitchen or bathroom, it goes through a process to transform its naturally occurring appearance into your beautiful, polished counter. To get the most from your countertop, the granite goes through a process called fabrication. 5280 Stone is a stone fabricator. 5280 Stone checks the density and overall structural integrity of stones you may have selected for your new home. This can vary depending where each stone slab is quarried. They will have structural test information on stone from the quarry. This inspection assures you are getting a quality stone. Fabrication involves making a final inspection for stone flaws, including blemishes, fissures, seams, and scratches. The slab is laid out to ensure the best appearance of both color and vein texture. Then, the stone is cut to approximately 1/16 of an inch of its final thickness. Edging and any special scribing will further shape the stone. Support rods and drain boards that the slab may require are installed next. A multi-step process involving ever-increasing grit polish is used to smooth the stone surface; finally, your stone is washed, dried, and the sealer base coat is applied. 5280 completes this process at their warehouse in Denver

Beautiful granite awaiting installation As the tour continued, we were able to see these artisans at work. The wall was covered with templates used to cut out openings on the stone. Each slab is carefully moved around the warehouse to complete the work including creating different edge selections.
