Safe and Fun Trick-or-Treating in Northern Colorado

October 27, 2021

Halloween is upon us!

Trick or treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat…that’s how that song goes, right? Ever wonder where the tradition of going up to strangers’ doors and asking for treats came from? Us too.

Believe it or not, the tradition that we have had in the United States for more than a century has its origins planted in ancient Celtic festivals, early Roman Catholic holidays, medieval practices, and even British politics. In ninth century Scotland and Ireland, the tradition was called guising and it is where young people would dress up in costume and sing a song or tell a joke to perform their “trick” before receiving their treat. Though the tradition has morphed over the years, not until after World War II did it morph into what we now see in the United States when sugar rationing was over.

According to CandyIndustry.com, Americans are projected to spend $10.14 billion on costumes, candy, decorations, and greeting cards in 2021. Wow!

Clearly, we all love ourselves some costumes and candy, but we are also here to help you on where to find some fun and safe trick or treating locations for the holiday this year.

With many still participating in social distancing, towns are participating in a Trick-or-Treat Street or Trunk-o-Treat.

What are these events you ask? If you’ve never participated in this style of trick-or-treating it can sound strange, but they’re really quite fun.

Each town will designate a street or specific location where businesses or a volunteer group will be available for children to trick-or-treat in a fun and safe location.

Here are some surrounding areas that you can check out!
